The canyon
Imagine a steep, narrow canyon, 300 feet deep and 15 feet wide. You are on one side. On the other side is your life’s dream -- everything you could ever want, so close, yet so far away.
There is no bridge across the canyon. You could try to jump across. That would be the quickest and easiest way, but you probably would not make it. You could sit and wait for a helicopter to come and ferry you across, but it probably would never come. You could hope that someone would come along and build a bridge, yet that may not ever happen.
Or, you could start working your way down into the canyon, step by step, until you reached the bottom. Then, just as tenaciously, step by step, work your way up the other side. It would not be easy. In fact, it would get more challenging as you went along. It would, however, get you there.
Too often, we sit and wait for the “easy way out” to come along. Yet the easy way, despite how much we would like it to, rarely comes. For example, you would have to play the lottery every week for 150,000 years before being assured, statistically, of winning the jackpot. Occasionally it comes easy, but not very often.
While others sit and wait for things to get easier, the winners in life make things happen. Winners find a workable way. Consistent effort, day after day, is the reliable route to success.
