virgin islands scene

Love is an ideal thing, marriage is a real thing. A confusion of the real with the ideal never goes unpunished.

Better than you think

You’re naturally more critical of those things you know the best, of those things which are most familiar. And who is the person with whom you are most familiar? Who do you know better than you know anyone else? You!

Because criticism goes hand in hand with familiarity, you have a tendency to be very critical of yourself. To a certain degree, this can be a useful and challenging thing. Your own self criticism can help you to understand and address your weaknesses. Yet it also must be kept in perspective.

Consider that you’re probably better than you think you are. Sure, you have shortcomings. Everyone does. Hold yourself to a high standard, to be sure. But don’t let that stop you. Remember to appreciate the good, the valuable in yourself. Though perfection is a worthy aim, there’s plenty of good you can accomplish before you get there.
